  • SYMONDS GREEN NEWSLETTER

    Issue 1 October 2012

    Dear residents

I thought I would introduce Symonds
Green Community Association to you as you may not have lived in the area long
or anyone that has lived here for a while may not be aware of our
    services. The Symonds Green Community
Association was founded in the 1970’s when the Annexe building in Scarborough
Avenue was built and in 1982 the main Community Centre opened. We also used to have the Neighbourhood centre
where we ran a successful coffee bar, a meeting room and computer suite.
Unfortunately the owner of that building took back ownership in March 2011 to
redevelop the site. We understand that the shops will remain open while this
    development is taking place.

    After the
disappointment a couple of years ago on losing out to the lottery bid for
funding to build an extension, we are
now about to start the campaign again to try again to secure the funding we
require to develop the Centre. The
Community Centre is in need of a bigger building where we can operate under one
roof and, as our Annexe building is nearing the end of it years and has served
us very well in that time, it is now the
    right time to move forward.

    We are a very busy
community centre and we have many people and groups that use both buildings
during the week and at weekends. We have
other social events including wedding parties, children’s parties and the church
uses it for their Sunday school group.

    We would like to take
this opportunity to ask local residents within the Symonds Green area if they
would like to be involved with the plans for the future of the Community
Centre. We would welcome you on board to
help us at this exciting time for the development of community facilities in
your area. Please contact me or
    Charlotte on 01438 361859.

    Thank you.

    Sandra

    Manager
